PERSIAN Cohort Study

Fasa Adult Cohort Study

The Fasa Adult Cohort Study was launched in 2014 as a prospective population-based cohort with the primary aim of investigating the risk factors and outcomes of non-communicable diseases.

Baseline Phase:
During the baseline phase, 10,000 participants were enrolled in the study. Blood, hair, and nail samples were collected from all participants and stored in the biobank. In addition, comprehensive questionnaires covering demographic characteristics, medical history, and dietary habits were completed for each participant. These biological samples and extensive datasets provide a valuable resource for epidemiological and clinical research.

Follow-up Phase:
Following the completion of participant enrollment, annual telephone follow-up was initiated. During each follow-up, participants' health status and medical events are recorded in the study database. This process is conducted annually for all participants. To date, 6 rounds of follow-up have been successfully completed with an attrition rate of less than 0.5%, and the sixth round is currently underway.

Re-assessment Phase:
The re-assessment phase began on September 25, 2021. In this phase, 3,000 participants were randomly selected from the baseline cohort and invited to revisit the cohort center located in Sheshdeh. During their visit, the demographic, medical, and dietary questionnaires were completed again, and additional blood and urine samples were collected and stored in the biobank. This phase enables researchers to evaluate longitudinal changes in participants' health status and risk factors over time.
